Usually, when a celebrity dies, I am fortunate enough to not know of them after their death. Let's be honest here- half of you don't even like MJ, you just jumped on the pity bandwagon the second you got the chance. I know I did. Stop pretending you're a fan of the latest dead celebrity, as one wise Facebook group has told me.
But for me, I know Brittany Murphy. Luanne is my favorite King Of The Hill character. I remember over the summer, I would look up stuff about King Of The Hill, and about Luanne, and always was reminded of her prescence. And it saddens me to know that the person who brought my favorite Southern blonde to life off a piece of paper is gone. And there's nothing we can do to stop that.
I watched King Of The Hill last night on Adult Swim, and during the reruns, one Adult Swim commercial (you know, where it's a black screen, and they make remarks about various media happenings) instead of their usual snide remarks, they paid tribute to Brittany Murphy. "Brittany Murphy [1977-2009]" And that truely made me smile.
Also, Luanne is not even the only character she voiced. I know she voiced Joeseph, Dale's son, and there are probably countless others I've failed to yet recognize. Brittany is in many live-action movies, yes, but for me, as a whole, I only recognize her as the Nancy Cartwright, Tress MacNellie, and Kath Soucie of King Of The Hill: the female voice actress that stands out from the crowd in the animated program, the one you never really notice until they're gone or until you finally come to the realization that they've been in many things you've seen, you just haven't bothered to check.
The one line of Luanne's that me and my family laughed at the most last night was, "Maybe when you die, you'll come back as my baby!" While definately humorous, if you think about it, it has a second meaning. Don't think I'm crazy when I tell you this, but, in a sense, Brittany will live on into the hearts of her true fans or mere adorers, such as myself.
To quote Ashton Kutcher:
"I'll see you on the other side, kid."
